Alaska bear cam

Who doesn't love watching bears? I remember as a small child my grandparents took us "down south" to visit relatives and going to the open air dump in the evening to watch black bears from the car. It was a local attraction you could say. Those days (thankfully) are long gone with better waste disposal.

But who doesn't love seeing beautiful majestic bears? What if you could do it from the safety of your home? The Explore site is amazing! It has a live bear cam and you can watch the bears fishing! It is located at the Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. The best viewing is from 6:30am - 11:30pm (they are on Alaska Standard Time)

Right now I am watching three bears at the falls fishing! I could watch these guys for hours. I know I can't, just saying I could! They have a variety of other cams and I am now off to watch belugas! I love cams.

Bear cam ... Jewel is in labor

We love this group. We have watched year after year as new cubs join the forest family. This year they have a cam in Jewel's den and it appears she is going into labor!!!! So stop by and check it out. You never know, you might get to see the miricale of birth and have the chance to watch her cub(s) grow. The really neat part is this cam has sound so you get to hear the cubs too!!!

Feed real chickens over the internet!!!

I totally stumbled on this while checking for backyard chicken raising info (we have a flock of 2.) It is a web cam at Flying Skunk Farm of their chickens. You have to scroll down to see the cam. The reason I am sharing a chicken cam? Because YOU CAN FEED THESE CHICKENS!!!! There is a button under the video and if you hit it, it real does dispense chicken food as you watch! I cracked up! So get the family around the computer because you can only click once every 10 min.

Fly on over to the Audubon!

Today’s fun find was the Audubon Society. They have a very nice website with lots of resources. Their education section has a nice section just for kids with games, coloring pages and video like a time lapse of baby hummingbirds which says it is live, but it’s not. The live barn owl came is LIVE and very neat. She is nesting and we have seen her stand up and glimpsed the eggs!

There are many resources on this site, including an Online guide to North American Birds. So take a second and drop by the Audubon site. Check out the owl, play a game, and explore it more to see what else you can find.

Let's go to the zoo!

Let's go to the zoo! It is about 10 degrees out here in Michigan, but why not go to the zoo! Don't worry, you don't even have to leave your computer. One of the wonderful things about the age we live in is the "virtual visit." There are many wonderful zoos and many of them now have web cams. One of our family's favorites is the National Zoological Park. We love to catch a glimpse of the naked mole rats. Come on, who doesn't love a naked mole rat!?!?

Not to mention you can have even more fun on these site because they usually have a Kid's Corner, club or activities that are FREE. An example is at the National Zoo they have the Conservation Kids' Club. There are coloring pages, puzzles, crosswords and more! So make a day of it and go the zoo!
