Endangered Species Day
is an opportunity for people to learn about the importance of
protecting endangered species and everyday actions that people can take to help
protect our nation’s disappearing wildlife. Started by the United
States Senate, Endangered Species Day is the third Friday in May. Every year,
thousands of people throughout the country celebrate Endangered Species Day at
parks, wildlife refuges, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, libraries, schools
and community centers.
See if you can find an event near you to participate in. If you don't have one near you, you can still participate by using these educational resources they provide.
This is such a large concept for children to understand, so here are a few "tools" to help bring it home. Check out who is endangered in YOUR backyard. And here are some endangered species coloring
pages you can print off.
